Decoding dental dreams: Exploring Specialty Choices Among Pakistani Dental Students

Abstract

Background: The field of Dentistry is a rapidly expanding field with development of various specialties. Various factors impact the choice of that field and understanding and modifying those factors will help with the advancement of field.

Objective: To understand the causes behind the choice made by dental students regarding their career.

Study Design: Cross sectional descriptive study

Sampling technique: Consecutive purposive sampling

Settings: Various dental colleges of public and private sector

Duration: 6 months after ethical approval

Results: Oral and maxillofacial surgery was the preferred field while public health and basic sciences were the least preferred fields among young dentists.

Conclusion: authorities must pay attention to the less preferred fields of specialties to avoid any disparity.
