Abstract

ABSTRACT

Objective: Objective Structured Practical Examination (OSPE)  is accepted assessment tool.  OSPE  is highly beneficial. This is inclusive of observing students, performing at particular stations. Preparation of every OSPE  station is based on an specific area and objective to be tested. To prepare and organize OSPE  stations a lot of hardwork and team based effort is required. Furthermore it has to be synchronously prepared with curriculum.   This study was done to assess perception of  junior faculty regarding OSPE.

Methodology : This  descriptive cross-sectional study  was conducted from February 2021  to June 2021. The sample size was calculated as,  100. Attainment of approval from Ethical Review Committee of Bahria University Medical & Dental College, was followed by commencement of study.  Signing of consent form by the participants was followed by filling of structured questionnaire form meant for data collection.  

Results: The study included 14 (14.1%) males and  85 (85.9%) females. Mean age of study participants was  28±3 SD. Purpose of OSPE  being inquired by the  study participants was responded as, to make assessments objective by 15 (14.4%), to make assessments subjective by 85 (81.7%). 

Conclusion  : This study concluded that in order to prepare OSPE for undergraduate students , perception of junior faculty is not adequate. Furthermore immense need exists to frequently arranged faculty development workshops for junior faculty in order to apprise them regarding the significance of OSPE as assessment tool as well as to upgrade OSPE preparation skills so as to make it latest and innovative yet synchronous with curriculum.
